Frequently asked questions

  • If community admins spin up events (such as batch events which are great for getting your worldwide community together around a milestone), fans/members can apply to host them.

It’s a fake-till-you-make it situation where you manifest the events you want to happen, and hope that someone in that city will pick up the torch to host. People can RSVP before a host is selected and before event details are final.

Applications to host are viewed from your community management dashboard. You can select hosts based on their River profile (or their past involvement in your community).

Once approved, they get an email notifying them and take over some edit access for that event. They can set the event title, description, dates, time, price, and capacity. They are not able to change the community information.

They are able to send event auto-reminders and message blasts via email and SMS, but they DO NOT get personal information of attendees. They can see the list of attendees by name, and whatever those attendees put in their profile, but they cannot access emails or phone numbers.

Message blasts are limited to before the event and within 48 hours after the event.

  • River helps orchestrate dozens of events at scale when the person facilitating is not the host or attending all the events.

River can process paid events with payouts to either hosts or community leaders.

River keeps track of who attended (not just who RSVPd) and gives digital badges (customizable by community admins) to attendees at check-in. These badges are proof of attendance and are viewable on people’s River profiles.

Large, distributed communities can have events simultaneously (batch events) and allow people to apply to host them or people can propose an event for that community which gets approved by the community leader.

River is a new paradigm in hosting distributed/crowdsourced events at scale.

  • Community admins can see names, profiles, and emails of anyone who RSVPs to a community event.

Hosts can see names and profiles but cannot access emails or phone numbers.

Hosts may download a CSV of names of attendees, usually used to give to front desk or security of a venue.

  • You can charge a fee for your events. Paid events are great for cutting down on no-shows (even $5 works wonders on attendance) and offering an elevated experience.

We keep a 15% platform fee and pay the rest out to you within 30 days of your event. Payouts are manual at the moment.

  • After paid events, we send an email to the host and/or community admin detailing the amounts for your event (ticket revenue less 15% platform fee). At the same time, we request your payment details (ACH) and send you the money within 30 days.

We’re working to automate this process, but for now it’s manual.

  • Currently sponsors are BYOB but building out more sponsor features are on the roadmap.

If you have a sponsor for your event, you can upload their logo, description, and link in the designated sponsor spot for each event.

  • Yes, we support virtual events.
